How Farmlets Work

  • You’ll have your own 1,200 sq. ft. mini-farm at one of our locations, perfectly sized to provide regular, produce for a family of 2-4 members
  • Visit as often as you like, connecting with the land and the community of farmlet growers. Enjoy working outdoors, getting your hands in the soil, or simply relaxing with a picnic in a peaceful, natural setting.

Managing the Farmlet

  • You Grow: You may choose to completely manage the farmlet yourself. At the start of your subscription, we’ll provide ready-to-use beds, an efficient irrigation system and tools.
  • Managed Garden: Alternatively, our expert team can handle the farmlet for you, planting according to your family's preferences. We will also take care of all the weeding, manuring, harvesting and home delivery of produce.

Farmlet Practices

  • Our farms are 100% organic with no use of synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. We make or source organic and natural fungicides and repellents.
  • Our farmlets are hyper-diverse, with multiple crops planted in the same bed, which boosts plant and soil health. We also incorporate native and heirloom seeds.
  • We recommend weekly visits to embrace the practice of growing your own food and enjoying the rewards of farming.

Affordability & Access

  • Farmlets are cost-effective, providing fresh, seasonal and 100% organic food right in the middle of the city!
  • Perfect for families, with easy access for weekend visits, including visits with children and the elderly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Farmlets

What can I expect from a farmlet?

We run community farms, where a large piece of land is divided into multiple smaller "farmlets" that are available on a subscription basis to individuals and businesses. 100% produce belongs to the member who subscribes to a particular farmlet (or a mini farm plot within our larger farm land). It is an extension of your kitchen garden away from home, where you can grow whatever you like and take home fresh vegetables every week. Or we deliver them to you when it is not possible for the subscriber to visit.

Here is some additional information on farmlets.

What are the different sizes of the plots? How to choose a size?
We offer 1200 sft plots which are sufficient for a family of 2 to 4 people.
What all is included in this subscription?

You may choose two options of farmlet management which come with different services.

1. In the You Grow option, you can take full control of the management. We will provide 14 prepared beds in 1,200 sq. ft. area along with drip irrigation and water supply. Other products and services such as seeds, fertilisers and crop management items will be available as on the rate card.

2. In the Managed Farmlet our team will manage the farmlet entirely. This will include seeds, manure, organic fertilizer and enrichments, natural pest management, farm assistance as well as harvest and weekly delivery. We plant according to the seasonal planting calendar.

In both these modes you will be able to avail discounted rates for our workshops and events. Additionally you will also be able to access our extremely active and productive urban farming WhatsApp group.

Harvest

How much harvest can I expect?
The 1,200 sq ft Farmlet is designed for a family of 2-4. The quantity of harvest varies month-to-month due to seasonal variations. Winters are generally more bountiful than summer. In winter, close to all domestic requirements of produce can be met while yields are a bit lower in summers. You may also expect dips in harvest when we move from one season to the next.
When do I start getting vegetables from our Farmlet?
The Farmlets are usually pre-planted, so your weekly harvest and delivery starts in the same week in which you begin your subscription. However, we gradually plant your farmlet based on your planting choices once your subscription begins.
Do I need to visit the farm regularly for my harvest?
Yes, it is very important for you to visit the farm regularly, ideally once a week but at least twice a month. Farmlets are meant to connect you with your food. This can only happen if you see and visit your farmlet periodically.

Alternatively, if your farmlet is managed by us, we will harvest weekly and deliver the produce to your doorstep.

Farmlet Guidelines

Can I use my own material such as seeds, manure, pest management methods? Can we experiment with a new variety of vegetables, cereals, pulses, and fruits?
Yes. However, you need approval from your farm manager to ensure it is organic and natural.
Can I bring my family and friends to the farm? Can I bring pets?
Of course. The farm is yours to enjoy once you subscribe. For pets, you need to ensure that they do not harm the plants and are kept under control while moving around the farm. As per our guidelines, the use of alcohol, smoking, loud music, and non-vegetarian food is prohibited. Also, we follow a strict zero-waste policy. So all your waste, especially any plastics, must be taken back.
Please refer to additional guidelins.
How can I get involved in the learning process?
Participating in activities on your Farmlet on a regular basis is the best way to learn. You can also participate in workshops, webinars, and courses offered by Edible Routes.
